Help for Hurricane Sandy:
Dear Friends,
I’m writing this post because the east coast was recently the victim of a hurricane. I was fine, as were all the people I know, but parts of the coast will need a lot of time and help to get back to normal. I am going to post here in order to let people know a few ways that they can help out.
Firstly, you can help out by KNITTING. Or at least buying a pattern. Alexis over at KnitDarling is donating all the proceeds from her Caring Cowl to the Red Cross. (link here) It’s a super cute pattern, and for a good cause! Even if that doesn’t move you, cowls are all the rage this season 😛 I bought it, and some lucky person is going to get it as a gift, to spread the goodwill around. I encourage you to link to this also, if you are a blogger!
If you don’t knit, (or don’t know someone who would like that pattern) then there is a link to the Red Cross here. You can direct it towards a specific cause like the hurricane, but I encourage you to simply give to where the need is greatest. This allows them to use the money given them for any future disasters as well. It is in fact possible that they won’t be able to spend all their donations, and so money that is specifically earmarked for hurricane relief would be tied up so they couldn’t use it, even though there may be other disasters in the future and the Red Cross always has a good cause for the money to go to.
Thanks for listening to me while I’m up on my soapbox. I think that times like these bring us as humans closer together, and we get to see the really great and caring side of people. Let’s do what we can, even if it’s only a little.
