I’m Doing Science and I’m Still Alive.

I still exist, though I’ve been sucked into a black hole.

is supposed to be a dress. A dress for a BABY, for crying out loud. It’s the only thing I’m currently working on, (the aunt who is creating this baby being about to pop.) and it’s going at the exact speed of molasses. It’s a beautiful little dress and I love it to bits, but I’m at that point where you measure, and it’s 6.5 inches long, then you knit for an hour, and it’s STILL @($%ING 6.5 INCHES ARRRRRGHHHHHHHHH. You know the feeling? I just have to keep knitting until the knitting goddess has decided that I have been punished enough, and then she will allow the dress to grow again, instead of eating my efforts as a sacrifice. But this wee dress is so incredibly charming that I forgive it everything.

I think the knitting goddess may not like that I’ve been spinning so much.

That is just too bad.

I just looked over at the dress to make sure that it didn’t spontaneously catch on fire after saying that.

  1. “…eating my efforts as a sacrifice.” LOL

    • After I knit for another hour, I had gained an inch. The ways of the knitting goddess are mysterious and capricious.

      • She rewards the patient. (But you’re right, sacrificing a skein of merino never hurts.) Congrats on the new job, btw!

  2. Well I love the color and it looks like it will be very cute when it’s done 🙂

    • I’m really excited about the pattern. The only way to get it is in a kit, and I was so in love that I thought it was worth it, even though I had to buy additional yarn so that it would be the right color.

Welcome back! I know what you mean about knitting that never grows- always the thing you need to finish yesterday! Keep going it will be worth it and post a pic, preferably being modelled by the baby! Love this post, made me giggle!

    • Thanks! I think everyone can relate to this feeling.. I think that in order to placate the knitting goddess, you need to burn a skein of merino at full moon every once in a while 😛

  4. I hate it when that happens – I’ve started some socks and a shawl, both of which are being exceptionally awkward and refusing to grow! What a pretty dress though – I can see why you still love it 😊

    • I finally made it to the waistband!!!

      • Yay! 😃 *waves cheerleader pom poms*

  5. HAHAHA! I know that feeling! But it looks great and it’s good to see you up and posting with all that life stuff going on! Hope all is well. You can finish that dress! We believe in you!

    • I have become obsessed with finishing things over the course of my job hunt. With this dress, it’s been intensified because I know it’s going to be impossibly cute when it’s finished.
