A Very Dapper Gent.
Look at this incredibly handsome young man!
This southern gentleman is my little brother Kyle, and he is the lucky recipient of my first knitted bowtie. It was a birthday present for him, as he is very fratty, which means that he wears a lot of bowties. And apparently white dinner jackets. I was able to snap this quick picture due to a modicum of good nature from Kyle (usually he gives his old sister short shrift when she tries to photograph him, and grumbles incessantly if I want more than one picture! boys are so difficult..) and because he didn’t realize I was taking his picture until after it was all over. He then graciously allowed me to get a closeup of the bowtie itself.
The color is a bit off in these pictures, but it’s a lovely dark crimson. (My brother goes to the University of Alabama, so it’s actually their school color.) The pattern is here, and the yarn is Cascade Heritage sock yarn. I think it came out very nicely, though the yarn has a lamentable tendency towards fuzziness. It’s a good think I didn’t get gauge, because the gauge on this pattern is TOTALLY WACK. It would have been about four inches high. As it is, it’s just about perfect, and he really likes it! Which is more than I can say about most of the presents I’ve given him. It was even worth the double knitting misery. (pretty, but SO SLOW.) Making it reversible was pretty cool though. Happy birthday Kylie Poo! (hehe that will make him mad.)
